Built in 1951 in England as the steel fishing trawler Vanessa Ann, the vessel served for over 20 years as a fishing ship in the North Atlantic, including the waters around Iceland. She took part in the so-called Cod Wars, during which she was damaged in a collision with the Icelandic gunboat Thor.
In 1957, she was sold to Fleetwood and continued working as a trawler until 1973. In 1984, after changing owners, she was rebuilt into a three-masted topsail schooner and extended by 14 metres.
Since 1995, the vessel has belonged to the City of Rostock and has served educational and recreational purposes. Her facilities include a mess room, galley, 20 berths, and sanitary facilities.
